"An agricultural county in Southwest Iowa; Montgomery County spans a total area of 425 square miles. Established by the General Assembly on January 15, 1851; Montgomery county is named in honor of American Revolutionary War General Richard Montgomery. The current courthouse made of sandstone and red brick was built in 1890 and was entered into the National Register of Historic Places on July 2, 1981."
